Partners of Parks hires new Executive Director

Partners of Parks has hired Diane Wiley as their new Executive Director. Wiley takes over for Betty Davenport, who founded the nonprofit in the early 80’s as “Friends of Long Beach Parks” to preserve open space and act as a watchdog over public parks. Davenport retired late 2006. Leslie Hunsaker, of the Long Beach Parks, Recreation & Marine Department has served as Acting Executive Director in 2007.

Wiley comes with a diverse set of expertise in fundraising, marketing and management. Her Long Beach tenure includes positions as the Marketing Director of Public Corporation for the Arts, as well as Senior Partner of Avenir Group, a political fundraising and PR agency, which she co-founded. Wiley served as Fundraising Chair on the Board of Directors for Partners of Parks in 2007. While serving on the board, Wiley saw great potential. “Partners (of Parks) has already benefited so many programs, from youth to seniors, gang prevention to culture and recreation. I’d like to take things to the next level,” says Wiley. “It’s important to ensure these programs have the backing to continue to serve Long Beach’s diverse population. I see great opportunity to help our underserved citizens as well. Large scale projects, such as the Universally Accessible Playground, will have a long-lasting positive impact on people’s lives.”

Chris Kozaites, Board President of Partners of Parks, believes Wiley has the skills to make the nonprofit a top-notch organization. “We interviewed several qualified candidates,” said Kozaites. “Diane’s well-rounded experience and passion for our mission made her a perfect fit to take Partners of Parks into the future.”
